Author Topic: SeventhSandwich reviews Alliance of Valiant Arms, the free to play Steam FPS!  (Read 1773 times)

Giving players the ability to buy power is never a good thing.
However, if you gave the player the ability to, oh I dunno, buy a hot pink Steyr AUG, or a gold plated AK-47, or even a reskin of a pistol to make it look like a steampunk gun, then fine, go do that, it'd be hilarious/loving cool. Buy allowing players to directly buy power is a big no-no.
Also I played this game back when it was on Ijji, I can't remember if it still is.

I did not even notice this was in Off-topic until now.

The hilarious thing is the upgrades don't make that much of a difference.

It's funny, because all I bought was an AK-47 - with free currency - and nothing else yet I always land head shots and get in at least 3th place on the score board.

Please change that "To play competitively" to "to play competitively if you suck."
AK-47 costs the same standard price as other rifle items.

You must have at least spent 10-17 hours of gameplay to even afford it.

ADDITIONALLY: If you purchase a weapon with G-Coins, there is NO rank requirement. Yet on the other hand, buying weaponry with standard credit requires a certain rank threshold which makes it take even longer to have the same edge as other players.

The difference between a 2 shot and a 1 shot sniper rifle is huge

The amount of people willing to pay that much money for 1 shot difference is so minute, that it doesn't matter.

2 Shot:
*BAM*
"Okay once mo- forget HE SAW ME forget forget forget- Oh, I died."

1 Shot:
*BAM*
>HEADSHOT
>DOUBLE KILL

The thing is that sniper headshots are insta kill with any sniper, except (maybe) that stuffty one you get at the beginning.

At the size of the maps, and the range you'll be shooting at, headshots are pretty hard to get.
Also, are the weapons hit-scan, or projectile-based?

I was just thinking about this yesterday. Valve nailed the f2p model perfectly with TF2.

The total cost to get access to everything for each player is a minimum of $5. The money Valve makes from small in-game purchases (upgrading accounts and normal purchases) far surpasses what they would have made from selling retail at full price over the same time period, but to each consumer, the price is really cheap, almost a steal. On top of that, Valve constantly releases content updates and bug fixes, which keeps players coming back, and keeps bringing new players in, even almost 5 years after the games release.

Not only is it a good business model for bringing in players to TF2, think of how many people downloaded Steam just to play TF2, then realized how great Steam is as a marketplace, a subsequently made purchases of other games.

I am not sure, but a very minimal amount of skill is required to land two shots.

Sincerly I consider AVA one of the most FTP games.
Why?

Despite the amount you pay, you don't need to upgrade every living stuff out of your character.
I don't think there's anyone that plays with all 3 classes in that many variable situations.

I never paid anything for AVA, neither I will because I can't, but I am doing well at the game.

I used all my living stuff out in that round, but yet again, non-GCoin-bought weapons and crap.

And one more thing, why you complain about AVA taking money from you?
Did you look at other games?
At other games donors pay for crap no one can get in an "earning way".

Take a look at... Roblox, Maplestory, Battlefield Heroes.

So don't you complain about AVA not being a truly FTP game, it isn't, but most of the stuff you would normally can use GCoin in can be bought with normal money.

Only game close to that is All Points Bulletin, but then their stupid premium feature comes in and forget them.

And on a sincere note to some limits, I personally love AVA more than InfinityWare's crap.

You didn't read anything.

It's not even that you can buy stuff with currency.

ANY FORM OF PLAYER UPGRADE NEEDS TO HAVE A RATING REPRESENTING THE SUM OF HOW GOOD IT IS, SO THAT THE AUTO-SORT SEPARATES PLAYERS BASED ON GEAR SO THE TEAMS AREN'T STACKED.

May I know one game that separates players based on gear?

And anyway, what if they don't separate by gear?

If you have a the game's most powerful weapon does not make you a pro if you don't know how to use it.

Considering most weapons on those games now take very small amount of shots to kill someone, it mostly matters to aim and reaction time.

What separation the game needs is separation based on overall KDR.

Nah it doesn't. The best rifle in AVA mows down people by accident frequently because of how fast it fires.

Also,
Ever heard of this before? It's called LEVELS. World of Warcraft made it so that battlegrounds were sorted into level intervals of 5 for this exact reason. It's so that players who progress farther into the game get to enjoy new content but not exploit their more powerful armor to bully newcomers.
This further supports my hypothesis that you didn't read anything I wrote.

Except you forgot to mention some major F2P setbacks, one of them being the ability to add friends.
