Author Topic: Vehicle Subwoofers  (Read 711 times)

So with the recent completion of installing neon lights in the interior of my car, I needed a new project to undertake. So I was trying to decide what else I could add to my Escape. I already swapped out the stock stereo for a touchscreen one, added the lights, and replaced all the door speakers. So I figured why not expand the cars audio even further.

So I decided to add subwoofers in my car. Two of my friend have them in their cars and they make the audio sound rather nice. I've decided to get two 12" Kicker Comp CVR's with Dual 4 ohm voice coils. Each sub puts out a max of 800 watts. These subs usually go for $180 a piece, but I found a site that is selling them for $70 a piece.

Here is one of the subs:

I will also need to purchase an amp that puts out the right wattage to power the subs:

Not to mention a stuffload of other accessories to make these things run. With the two subs, amp, and box I have picked out, the current price is around $380 so far. And that is not even counting all of the wiring needed. The Kicker brand equipment will tie in well though with the four 6x8" Kicker door speakers I already have installed. One thing is for sure though, with all that goes in to this it will be one long project.

Due to the large amount of work and expense of everything this will probably not be finished for quite some time. But when it is I will make sure to post plenty of pictures.

Feel free to discuss any audio systems and such.

That's some expensive gear... O:

That's pretty common over here. Most cars have subs in the boot here.

I see what you did thar :3

I have an 87 C-10 that I'm going to get when I finally get my license, but it needs a new engine. I wanted to get it a stereo and all that but the engine and everything needed to make it run again is going to come to roughly 3000ish which is almost all of my money.

I wanted to get it a decent stereo system, but it has a weird stereo in it so I was looking for a nice one and it costs about 200 but its pretty cool.

Its the secret audio SST http://www.casmfg.com/Secretaudio.htm

Play the most obnoxious heavy metal song on full blast. The bass drums will make all the other cars explode.

So you're finally entrepreneur ing out your tank? I think you should get it in red, girls like red.
Also make it do the thing where the back goes up and down.
get a cannon

put the subwoofers in the cannon

flamecannon

Get some cerwin vega subs BTW

build/buy a cabinet for them, and mount that with like velcro or straps to the back you car.  That way, you can easily take them out for travelling with a full load.

Something like:

You may want to look at the specs of your speakers, though.  Some of them call for ported/unported cabinets, and they all have a recommended cabinet size for best performance.

Now you can make everyone get annoyed at your loud thumping muffled noises.
