Author Topic: Who in their right mind plays music on an AM station?  (Read 556 times)

I'm serious, the AM station 1260 around here plays music. The quality makes 240p youtube videos sound like Blu-ray. Who the hell would do such a horrible thing?!

who in their right mind uses AM in the first place

My nephew loves that station for some reason so my mom turned it on. The quality makes my ears scream in pain.

Maybe they ran out of FM stations. There's regulations you know.

that's radio disney i believe
they air it over AM so they don't have to have so many FM stations around while having the station widely available because they're CHEAP

It is Radio Disney, I just heard it.

AM radio is for two things:

Sports and old music

It's because anything within .1 frequency will be picked up by other channels.  Notice everything ends in a .1 .3 .5 .7 or .9

Radio waves can only carry a certain frequency.  The wavelength suggests the quality of the sound.  FM radio is made for music.  AM Radio is made for talk shows n' stuff.

There are only a certain number of wavelengths available before the channels start blending.

Try it on an AM Station.  Go exactly halfway between two channels and you can hear them both (amongst static).

Edit: Pretty sure that AM may have a different suffix for its channels.

This is FM radio.  I don't know what it has to do with AM, but you're right at AM being for just purely talk due to its lack of quality.
