I have a few questions.
Quote
How old do you have to be to do a ride along?
How would I go about setting one up?
Any pointers for this?
How long is it for?
What is the usual schedule for one?

ride along?

yes. im in illinois if there are any state laws (im sure, illinois is stupid)

When you say "How old do I have to be to ride along?" What do you mean by that? I mean, you have to be about the age it takes to be an officer which is around 19 - whatever.

the legal minimum age for riding along

I don't know. I think my brother started doing it when he was 17 but this is NJ. Also it was a long time late at night so be committed

I'm pretty sure it's what I just said: The age is what you have to be to be a cop. As in, once you're old enough to be a cop, you're old enough to ride in the cruiser.

I'm pretty sure you have to be 18 because of liability issues, but it might be 17 because the legal age in IL is currently as such.

How old? any age, really. I got a ride along when I was 12 because I was "lost" not really lost, just too lazy to walk home.

Or you can break the law and that can be any age.

But in all seriousness, as far as my state (Minnesota) goes, you have to be active in the police academy in order to have any official ride-alongs as civilians are at too great a risk if something serious goes down. The liability is simply far too great.

Stay in school and don't do drugs/alcohol. Officer Rughugger says so. (not official title but we can pretend for the fun of it)

He arrested a baby, how rude.

No no no, that baby is evidence and will be put in the evidence box for later examination.

Is there uh... Is there a baby in the back of that car..?

Yes. His diaper was loaded with controlled substances and we were baiting the parents for an arrest.
