Author Topic: What computer should I use to play blockland?  (Read 2280 times)

Yeah.
I have my PC, and my mac.

My PC

pros:
I have an easier time building
Lots of good add-ons
I know the controls easily
Can host a fairly good server

cons:
Lags when there's ~10k bricks on the screen at the same time
Lags when there's too much emitters on the screen at the same time.
The alarm emote is loud as forget in first person

These cons are really big and makes the game much less enjoyable

My Mac

Pros:
Almost no lag at all. (starts lagging at maybe 80k bricks?)
Alarm emote isn't really loud in first person

Cons:
Crashes, freezes, won't load servers, sqlite errors, etc. (Blockland for mac is really broken)
No numpad, I can't build for stuff.
I can't set up good keybinds because no numpad = almost the entire keyboard is already taken.
I haven't got all my good add-ons which makes the game easier. (Though I could spend some time finding these)

These cons also make the game less enjoyable.

What should I do?
As you can see both of my computers are pretty bad at running blockland.
Should I save up for a good PC laptop?
Should I learn to build on my mac?
Should I just deal with it and go on?

Save up for a proper PC desktop, especially with the new shadows and shaders coming.

Cool people use IJKL to build anyway.

whatever one has the better video card i guess.

edit;
though no num-pad makes blockland pretty much non playable.
you could bind all the keys to the qwerty side but thats not very convenient or easy to play.

cant you just plug the pc keyboard into the mac? or is that comp not any better any ways.

play the game in a 1440x900ish window with settings down. it still looks ok.

Since my mac is a laptop (still less laggy) it feels pretty weird having my pc keyboard plugged in.
I have tried to drag some setting down, but that didn't really help when there's large amounts of bricks.

I don't feel like switching out my desktop pc, but I might have to do that anyways.
I'm thinking about buying a specific pc laptop. My friends bro got one for christmas, it's as good as his alienware laptop. It's about 900 dollars.

Yes. Alienware is overpriced. I know.
But I'm talking about a computer wich is as good as one, but for just half of the cost.

I'm thinking of getting a dell xps because I don't want a laptop with the stufftiest battery life possible, and I need a laptop that's good for things other than gaming.

You should build your one, its A LOT cheaper and there are great warranties and rebates on almost every single item. You do need to know some computer knowledge like what a ram stick is or a graphics card and a processor is but everything else is explained in the manual that comes with your motherboard. If you want, I could look up the parts for you, give me a specific price your looking for and I can find cheap but good parts that can run BL and many other games.

The best website to building your own pc is newegg.com
Again, reply back if you want to select the parts for you, I built my own as well.

And I build fine without a numpad, I use the IJKL buttons, its almost the same as numpad.

I'm scared of building my own computer because I don't know how. Think if I do something wrong and mess up the whole thing? Can I do it in my room because I don't have a garage?
I also don't think newegg.com is the best choise for me because I live in sweden and my mom don't like ordering things from other countries because they might break.

Though building my own computer is probably the best choise.
How much do I need to build a good computer? Maybe not crysis 2 on best graphics, but at least not worst graphics.

you can buy prebuilt-custom computers. they cost the same as custom building it piece by piece.

people always make it sound like you must buy parts to save the most money, thats not true.

They most cost at least a little more thatn buying it piece by piece, how would the creator earn money otherwise?

the creators get wholesale bulk buys of products, they profit insanely.
if this wasn't he case, no store on earth would even exist.

everywhere you could ever find a $1,000 processor, they likely paid only $150.00 for it.
thats how stores work...

many many sites and sellers on the net assemble towers with wholesale products they have supplies of. and sell the whole thing even cheaper then you buying singular parts on newegg or somewhere.

alienware stuff... costs the most of anything anywhere
<
retail stores charge a lot because they have tons of middle men and overhead.
<
you buying part by part on the net saves more money
<
you buying a prebuilt-custom computer saves even more money as its a singular product using the cheaper items as the above step.

remember there is a huge different between retail prebuilds, custom builts, and prebuilt-customs

Well I still don't know where I can buy a prebuilt-custom computer, I don't even think I can afford a good one.
