I don't want to live on a planet where over 15 million people get tricked and scammed by a small group of people.

Apparently he never heard of stockholm syndrome.

I actually just recently did an essay on stockholm syndrome

Then kill yourself.

Am I the only one who doesn't know who Joseph Kony is?

He must be a bad person, from what I've read here.

Everything I've gathered tells me that he captured children and used them as slaves. Is this true?

Kony became "infamous" instantly, when oil was found from Uganda... Interesting...

You're so blown away that someone is thinking rationally that you had to double post to keep this thread relevant
The fact that you think that you are thinking rationally is about 90% of what is wrong with the world. Lucky for you, you can say that safely behind your monitor. If you saw your brothers neck get slashed, your tone would change. And "Liberal Guilt"?  I'm pretty sure the guilt would be if America DIDN'T get involved. America is a world power, in fact, we have the strongest military in the world. Why can't we use it for good? Oh, right. Because we are "liberals". Also, you said that the director is in it for his own self importance, but I don't recall him really saying his own name too many times. In fact, the only time he talked about himself is when he was with the kid he rescued, and his story with him. Care to explain that? Also, care to explain why you think, for some reason, that saving millions of people simply by arresting someone is irrational?

Everything I've gathered tells me that he captured children and used them as slaves. Is this true?

Simply put, yes. A large percentage of the population in countries like Uganda live in rural areas a ways from the cities where the schools are. Without a public transportation system, many of the kids have to walk (by themselves because their parents have to work) quite a ways to get there. This when many of the children are abducted. Generally after capturing them, he forces them to kill their parents and uses them as both child soldiers and hostages. He squashes rebellions by forcing children to prove their loyalty by mutilating the faces of rebels, cutting off lips, ears, or noses. If you refuse, you get the same treatment.

From the locked topic from just a minute ago... wanted to bring this discussion over here:

invisible children is a shady nonprofit that only puts 31% of donations to good use

But how do you define "Good use"?

If they hadn't spent this much on the development of the actual movie then do you think so many people would now about this and would be donating? That 31% is probably more than 100% of if they hadn't been clever and raised awareness on the issue.

On the other hand there are rumors of the Ugandan government itself using child soldiers which makes them just as bad as Kony if not worse. Some believe Kony is fighting for a good cause and he deny's accusations of kidnapping children and severing limbs off of captives. The only proof so far is the testimonies of children who claim to have been kidnapped by him. Who is to say these children weren't payed by the Ugandan government to spread lies like this to bring Kony down?

Unfortunately as people who are in an entirely different country and can't believe either side's accusations of each other then we will probably never know who was actually telling the truth. Currently though, Kony is being portrayed as the 'bad guy' and that's how he is generally accepted.

GEEZ IT'S NOT LIKE WE HAVEN'T SEEN THAT VIDEO ALREADY

THANKS

I'm just going to sit on the fence until this all dies down. Of course I don't enjoy children getting murdered, but the organization which is leading this is incredibly shady. They only use 30% of their profits to actually benefit Uganda. And after that, Kony isn't even in control. He's one person. Undoubtedly someone else is going to show up eventually and repeat the cycle.

It's amusing to see how people are unaware about things like this happening in Africa every single day, and apparently most people think that this man is the ONLY man doing this, just because he's the most wanted man in the world.
