Author Topic: I give up, I'm finally switching to Ubuntu.  (Read 1014 times)

I'm going to put all my personal data on a External HDD and switch over.

I'm tired of windows breaking on me all the time, plus most programs support Ubuntu, and most that don't can be manipulated with wine.

Any specific distros that I should get? I want one that has Python preinstalled so that I can set up Blender 2.49 as soon as I get it.

windows breaking on you all the time?

OpenSUSE KDE.
Doesnt have unity. Plus Python is easy to install if its not on opensuse. Use the package manager and look up python.

What do you mean by "breaking"?

things like Win Explorer crashing and such. WMP doesn't work half the time either.

Did you bother to check your hardware specs?

1.00GHz CPU Clock

3.072GB RAM

320GB HDD

1GB Video RAM

AMD C-50 Processor (Dual Core)

64Bit

you'll do better with linux instead of windows
but that processor is still really low-end

Tell me about it.

When I first bought it, it was decent, but now it's slow as hell. My computer freezes when I shake my mouse to get rid of the screensaver.

This right here might be your troubles. Especially your processor.
You would be better off switching to Ubuntu or just upgrading your processor.

windows master race
linux is tasty as forget for servers though

I'm currently on Ubuntu.

upgrading your processor.
Can't. I'd like to, but laptop processors are soldered the the motherboard.

But for $350 I think this lappy was worth it.

Also BIOS won't let me overclock.

with my personal experiences with ubuntu, internet browsing is faster, it's a really good programming environment, it's pretty, and the multiple workspaces thing is nice too, like having a monitor 4 times as big.

it can only serve as a permanent replacement however if your problems with windows are extremely severe. steam is absolute hell with wine.

I don't use steam that much anyways, but if I want to talk with someone on steam, there's always Steampowered.com
