Author Topic: Need help with some math.  (Read 991 times)

Quadratic Equations: x2 + bx + c = 0.

the ones i need help with are:
Factoring
i need -9 and +8 to have the same numbers, -9 being addition, +8 being multiplication.
14. b2 - 9b + 8
16. -4 - 3m + m2
i dont need to show the work on these two.

14. (b-1)(b-8)
16. (m+4)(m-1)

14. (b-1)(b-8)
16. (m+4)(m-1)
thanks man, could you by any chance do these?
they have 2 answers.
i need to show my work here.
Solve:
17. x2 - 6x + 8 = 0
18. b2 - 7b + 12 = 0
19. m2 + 5m + 6 = 0
20. d2 + 7d + 10 = 0
21. y2 - 2y - 24 = 0
22. p2 - 3p = 18
23. h2 + 2h = 35
24. a2 + 14a = -45
25. n2 - 36 = 5n
26. w2 + = 11w

may I recommend Wolfram|Alpha?

for example, number seventeen - X can be 2 or 4

Ax^2 + Bx + C

Get the equation to equal 0

Then, multiply A and C, then find factors of A*C that add up to B.

Example:

b^2 - 9b + 8
A = 1, B = -9, C =  8

A*C = 8

-8 and -1 work, they add up to B:
(x-8)(x-1)

Solutions would then be 8 and 1.

Ax^2 + Bx + C

Get the equation to equal 0

Then, multiply A and C, then find factors of A*C that add up to B.

Example:

b^2 - 9b + 8
A = 1, B = -9, C =  8

A*C = 8

-8 and -1 work, they add up to B:
(x-8)(x-1)

Solutions would then be 8 and 1.
