At my school the idiotic "Cod Slaves" were colloquially referred to as "The CoD Squad".
They were more formally referred to as richardheads.
What country do you live in?
I personally found in my PE lessons at Secondary School, the lessons were just a wasted hour to allow the school to say that they give their students plenty of physical activity.
Not saying that I don't agree with a child having PE, but the idea that you take all the children, including those who are not sporty, and then force them to have to play sports which they don't enjoy, are no good at or don't understand, is just pointless. If a child honestly can't join in with the sports, then he's clearly not going to do the hours of physical activity that you want him to do. For many people, forcing you to do 2 hours of PE a week basically means that you definitely will not do proper activity for those 2 hours.
I was never taught how to play Rugby at school. Yet there was always a season of PE where we would do Rugby without anyone knowing what was going on. The teacher didn't care to teach.
It's no wonder I skipped so many lessons of it. "No sir, I don't have my PE Kit today. Sorry."
At my second secondary school, PE was much better when I was in Year 10 and Year 11, because they let us choose what we wanted to do throughout the year.
So I got to choose to play Football when I wanted to, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Rounders and "Orienteering" (Which was more "Get dropped off somewhere rural, have a walk for an hour then we drive back").
I was happy to do all of those and as such I enjoyed it.
And I never had to play games that I didn't like, such as Rugby or Cricket or Gymnastics.
