School letting students bring Laptops / Tablets

So my school recently decided to let High School Students(that's me) bring laptops, iPads, and tablets to class. They are also providing free wifi(runs on Novell, so there are blocks). I think this is a really cool idea for the school. I talked to my Geo teacher, who loved that they are going to do this. Personally, I am worried about getting my Laptop stolen (it's not cheap).

What do you guys think of schools letting students do this?

1) How should I go about preventing my laptop being stolen? I have a Biometric lock to get into Windows, and a Kingston lock on it, but is there anything else I can do?

That's odd, my school has it mandatory to bring in laptops for high school.

But the best way for security is have a laptop bag and have your laptop inside it, and

I think your laptop is pretty safe, though maybe you should figure out somehow to track it when it get stolen though. As for laptops in school, I've brought mine occasionally for school work and casually. They're pretty cool, but my classes get very rowdy. So I don't really approve of technology during class at least in my school.

Our school lets us do that with the free wifi. But someone stole my track shoes rather than my ipod or my rooted nook color.

I don't see a need for laptops; school desktops are a lot more reliable and you don't have to lug them around. Tablets are cool though.

too bad they're generally outdated by about ten years unless it's a school that likes having up-to-date computers

already allowed to bring laptops, as long as we don't pull them out at stupid times. ex: during class when we aren't using computers.
