Author Topic: School letting students bring Laptops / Tablets  (Read 2109 times)

I want to bring mine for my notes, online books, agenda, entertainment (when appropriate), my email*, internet resources, online grades, and Office. Our school does a *lot* of powerpoint. Every class I have uses it, minus my Geo teacher, but he said he would find as many possible ways to use it. My laptop wouldn't leave my side. Anyone have any suggestions on a bag to carry it in? It's the Lenovo Ideapad V570. It's 15.6" long.

I wish my school did this. I can type much faster than I can write, and it's a heck of a lot more legible. Next year, maybe.

Ahahaha, this is modern day.    At my school each grad has laptops (8th us, has best) and all computer rooms, every room has the modern macs. Eat it bitches!

Exactly this. My handwriting is slow and messy, like a depressed tortoise decided to erratically scratch it's final words into the paper. Typing, I average 70 wpm, and in short bits can accelerate up to 90+.

Our school doesn't provide free Wifi.
However, I did bring my laptop loaded with Linux to school and Über h4xed it at lunch.

Get a lap sack (that's what I call laptop cases) and keep it with you at al times. Having a laptop at school was awesome, paperless testing, googling answers, the works ;3

My school gives all the students Ipads that we use in class :3

Wait what

If we brought a laptop to school in England it would be confiscated till the end of the week most likely

I can go up to 112 if i know exactly what I'm typing, but it also depends on the keyboard.

This was my AIMs (standardized test stuff) writing prompt this year. :D

At most schools, yes.
If you're in College or Sixth Form you'd generally be allowed to take it in.
It is a very handy and sometimes important tool for college work.

So long as you use it when it's appropriate, most UK Colleges don't mind you using them.

But in order to prevent it being stolen...
Make sure you have it properly locked down.
If possible, engrave your name upon the casing or such, as well as any other personal information that would help it get back to you.
You can get GPS tracking to ensure that if it does get stolen or goes missing, you know where it is.
Ensure you have it in a carry-case that you can look after. (Why wouldn't you? You'd hardly want to carry a laptop and a power-cable/pack around all day in your hands)

And really, just keep it with you.
Don't leave it in rooms if you have a break between lessons.
Don't leave it in places where it is likely to be taken.
Don't leave it with anyone you don't know or trust.
Get a locker at school. Leave it in your locker when you have lessons that you can't take the laptop to. (PE for example).
And if you do leave it in a room, make sure there is someone trustworthy in there, like a friend or a teacher.

You know, that would be bad for a kid who is addicted to research,  like at my school, and decides to watch it. Or at a time he shut his computer down, let the site open, and when he opened it. love sounds came out. Total embarrassment for him. Anyways, it's a good idea, i'd like to go to your school.

A child who is addicted to research has something wrong with him really.
And he has something definitely wrong with him if he opens up video research in a class-room.
You couldn't possibly open research and not expect to be embarassed. Either you get caught with research or you get caught jacking off to research in a class-room.

And if he leaves his research open like such and it turns on, then he is an idiot.

If you were this sort of person and got caught with research for any reason, you'd likely be expelled or at the very least banned from ever bringing in a laptop or even using school computers.

You lucky forget. :c Our school as only 1 computer lab, and we can't even use Java or Flash. So, if we find an educational game that might be fun, we can't play it.

yeah i can only imagine the ultra theft that will go on lol.

people will become to comfortable leaving their gadgets sit around behind their backs.
