I was going to just brush this off but I wanted to make sure there's nothing seriously wrong with my computer.
Last night while I was richarding around on the internet, my laptop assaulted my ears with an extremely loud beep. I've heard of computers beeping when there's a problem, but I was under the impression that those sounds came directly from the computer, and not through the speakers (or in this case, my headphones). That may not be true for a laptop though, I'm hardly a hardware expert. This has happened at least one other time, and it scares the stuff outta me. No dialog boxes or other prompts appear when it happens, and I'm generally just browsing the web when it drops the auditory bomb. Just now it beeped twice in quick succession, and I'm getting a little worried. I'm not really sure what query to input to Google to find a solution, so I'm just asking here if anyone knows what it means.
It's a Dell Studio laptop running Vista Home Premium if it makes any difference.
At least it reminded me to update my hard-drive backup.
