So we had to read this passage in order to make corrections and i think that they should of re-wrote the passage. It went something like this.

Mark has joined the debate team in order to improve his skills. Through his season, he learned how to counter argue against the other teams statements. After doing some research, Mark is now a master debater and he won the state title for his team.
