Zimmerman told police that he had shot the youngster and officers found a semi-automatic handgun on him, for which he held a permit.

I would carry a gun on me, as well, if there were bozos like the officer in my neighborhood.

If I might point out, the article said that Zimmerman followed the kid before he was shot.
