Author Topic: RPG Weapon Set (Needs Animations)  (Read 1518 times)

Well, Ive had these models and this idea for a little under two years now. It took me this long to actually ask for help here..

What Im trying to do is create an RPG weapon set to replace Jerkface's old and worn out RPG Weapon packs.
I need help with getting the animations right. I have limited knowledge of animation, and can't get them perfect.

Note: These are Milkshape files so without Milkshape you can't really do anything with the files I have.

What I have so far (model wise):

Battle Axe                                                                                     War Hammer

Mace                                                                                    Two Hander

Cudgel                                         Long Sword                        Short Sword

Dagger

Yes, they do use hand models. I know most of you are gonna complain about that..
But there is no other way of getting a custom animation on a melee weapon without hand models.

These weapons will be like Jerkface's with several versions varying in damage level and texture color.
(Ill be more creative with weapon materials though..)

If you would like to help me with the animations, and potentially the packaging of these weapons, send me a PM.

Animating is pretty simple in milkshape. even my fail weps have animation's. lol and they dont even have icons!

You heard him!  Even his fail weapons have animations!  But how to incorporate the animations in the weapon codes...

The thing is, I cant figure out how to get the 2 Handed weapons hands to come together and swing at the same time..

Wait, so you are trying to manipulate two different objects at once?
Just animate the hands and sword as one big group, don't overcomplicate it.

..But then the hands would be swinging the weapon awkwardly. I would never want to swing an axe with one hand under the axe head and the other on the handle.

Besides, I'm also looking for someone to help me do the animations right. I have no idea where to put the shoulder pivot, nor do I have any idea how to incorporate multiple swing types outside of one animation.

I'm not exactly what you're describing there.
The reason I think you don't think you are good at animating is because you haven't done enough simple stuff. I would recommend practicing simple animations at first, and then making more and more challenging ones.

I have plenty of practice with simple animations. All of my one handed weapons here actually have simple animations. The only problem is, I can never figure out how to get them to work in game. I don't think I'm bad at animation, I just have no way of getting them to fit the Blockland player nor do I know how to control two objects then merge them as one with the 2 handed weapons..

If somebody was to help me with the animations, it would be awkward using both of our styles in the same pack so Id want them to remake them all..

Have you checked out A Twig's topic on animation?
Or over the spring break, I can animate stuff for you, but I'll have to recolor everything due to how the importer/exporter between blender and milkshape sucks.

Well, I could send you all the color files in a .zip. But I don't think it would matter. I could recolor them when I get them back.

To get animations to fit with the blockland player, download the player model, merge, and use it as a reference while you animate.

The minifig's X Y Z axis are different than the item mounts X Y Z axis. I don't know where that is so..
I also have the minifig.

I guess I could lower the entire minifig down to the arm height and guess hand distance.

Or, for guessing hand distance, you could look at any other weapon that uses custom hands.

I would need their base 3D file. I can't open .dts's

And dammit! I still cant get the two hand to come together then swing at the same time!

Parent the hand that is on the upper part of the weapon to the other hand or weapon.
That's how it works for me in blender.
