Some of you may remember a topic a made awhile ago saying how I was planning on installing a subwoofer system as the next modification to my car. When I made that topic it was just a rough plan but now I'm finally starting to get the parts together. I currently have the subwoofers themselves on the way in shipping.
Next up is the box. I can't just pick any box though. I want a box that still leaves me with a decent amount of trunk space. I was browsing around and I located
this box. Due to its small width it seems perfect for me. Today I used a tape measure and some wooden blocks around the garage to create a rough estimate of what the box would look like in my trunk.
(I filled in black lines to show the outline of the box as well as stuffty circles to show where the subs would face)

As you can see, the box would fit nicely and still give me trunk room. Unfortunately it says this is a Downfire subwoofer box. This means that it is designed so the subs are faced downwards and fire into the carpet. I personally want a design which has the subs facing the rear door of the car as shown in the picture.
So my question is, would I be able to just use the downfire sub box but instead position it so that the subs are facing the rear door. And if so would this affect the sound quality at all.
