Author Topic: How to name your dedicated server?  (Read 952 times)

Ok I forwarded my ports, yada yada, etc. Now I finally loaded the dedicated server using the "Blockland Dedicated Server" program included with the game in the Program Files. But how do you name the server so if I wanted to access it from the "Join Game" section?

the game, as of v20(?) is now located in the My Documents/Blockland directory, not program files.
To launch a dedicated server, you must create a shortcut to "BlocklandLauncher.exe" which is inside of the My Documents folder with the arguments -dedicated -map skylands.
Someone quote Spook on his "easiest tutorial"

By default it will be [Yourname]'s server.

Someone feel free to correct me, but I'm pretty sure this is just an obsolete old version of dedicated server hosting; there should only be two files in your program files folder - BlocklandLauncher.exe and Uninstall.exe. Anything else is just the ghost of an old version.

When joining your own dedicated server that is in your home network, you will probably need to query LAN to join, rather than query internet.

There are plenty of posts around explaining how to host dedicated servers without that .bat, I won't bother repeating that.

this is correct

this is correct

Yes, yes it is. That was an error on my part. And yes I have hosted servers by using the launcher but I want to be able to host without having to be in game all the time and be able to use the cmd.

Do that.

How do you add the arguments? o_0 I'm not sure how to edit the short cut

You right click it and select 'Properties'
To answer your question, you join the server, open up RTB server control (default shortcut Crtl S) and change the server name...
If you don't have RTb, GET IT

You can do it in the winconsole.

$Pref::Server::Name = "whatevername";
WebCom_PostServer();

or you chat $$Pref::Server::Name = Asdf;
if you have eval

or you chat $$Pref::Server::Name = Asdf;
if you have eval
and if your eval searches for chat messages starting with $ for eval

If it does not, you gonna edit the .cs file so it does

...or use the character/command that makes it activate  :cookieMonster:
