I'm interested in what happened to the main characters of the previous series. Obviously one or more of them are dead (Aang is obviously gone). I hope they do well with this new series.

Aang defeated the fire lord and took away his firebending.

This series features a new Avatar, Korra. When the Avatar dies, a new one is born, thus Aang obviously is dead.
The series also takes place about ~70 years after the final episode.

Chances are, we'll see him in the Avatar State at some point or another, old age and whatnot.

It is possible Momo lived that long too, as we don't really know the lifespan of these creatures, but I'm not counting on it.
