What coding program is the best?

My dad said that he thinks that I should start coding more then later. And I know a lot of you guys on here code so I was wondering what language do you guys think is the best to make simple stuff up to semi-good games? I was thinking C# or C++. My dad say that Visual Basic and Java are good (What he uses to code with) I know someone with Python books but when I tried it I didn't like how it was to much.

Also I almost forgot. My dad codes for some small company called Cortex. So he knows what hes doing but everything he knows he thought himself. And I would like to start to make games.

Java or C++.

use whatever program you like best

VB has no real world use but it's good for learning. Java is a good learning language too.

I suggest starting with Java and once you're comfortable, move to C++

C++
It's used for many games, especially the commercial ones.

Watch this, it helps a lot!

T-T-T-Torque3D!
um

probably not for various reasons

i think using C++ may be better

you'd mostly be working with TS and TS is only useful in Torque engines so

no

/sarcasm

Torque3D is somewhat useless unless you're wanting to make a small FPS game.

That was really fast, Also I would like to note, I'm not sure what Byond was based off of but I know how to get around and make little games. Also I'm going to go with most probably C++ by what everyone has said. Well I have strep so I need to sleep I'll check on the topic when I get up.

Komodo Edit. It is free, and just brilliant. Good for Mac, Windows, or Linux.

I use it for web design (HTML and CSS). Its web focused but good for all languages though, like C++, Python, Ruby, whatever.

.. wait is he asking for an IDE or a language?

the title says "program" but his post says language ..

I'm guessing the latter, but both would probably be nice for him to know.

do C# so you can use Unity.
unity is lovey for 3d games
in terms of 2d games, I'd do C++

Use Visual C++ Express.
