Mouse Mania - yet another love2d project likely to collect dust

like stepmania, BUT WITH YOUR MOUSE OH FUN

and no it's not osu! either, more of a hybrid between the two, it has inspiration from both.



the goal is to move your mouse in the direction of the arrows when they reach the receptor (the diamond on the right) and click for the X's. i was going to implement a type where you would have to spaz your mouse like a handicap for points but meh.

there's only one short song, the demo is for testing purposes only. i'd like feedback so i can know whether to increase the threshold for required mouse movement to get the arrows, or the size of the window you can hit them in.

The diamond receptor should definitely be a bit bigger, maybe even make it a square or a circle.
and i dont know if you noticed, but the blur on the arrows are cut off on the top and bottom.

i'm assuming you'll eventually have the option to have multiple receptors as well based on the game's layout so far.

will we get to eventually pick our own custom song?

i'll more than likely stick with the diamond, and i can always make the receptor bigger but for me it would be easier to increase the timing window :P

multiple receptors? not sure how that would work or why you would even need that, haha

if you say "pick" as in "convert" then i'll make an editor for songs, but it would be VERY hard for me to convert songs to decent charts from the wave form and it would take a little bit. the best charts are usually hand crafted, like the one in the demo.

and yeah, i'll fix the images' glow cutoff later, haha.

i think i know where you're going with the multiple receptors, and that's an interesting concept.

i ran a script on mousemania and it says that it contains 1,111 lines of lua. - nope, 1,113. i changed something haha.

dayum.

also, update in a sec - you can change your speed and timing window difficulty now, next up is the song editor (which doesn't work or even exist in this demo haha).
preferences file is being stupid

this will take a while
done.
