Can't Join/Make Server

I have an issue with joining some servers or starting a dedicated one. So when I load up the dedicated, I see it on the servers list, but it says it's dead. Should I use the Lan server or the regular? Because I used the regular. And with joining some, my friend made a server, but it also said it was dead. Thanks if you can help me.

Hi, this probelm is quite a common one, Badspot has written a tutorial on fixing this. What you need to do to host a server, is port forwarding. Here is a link to the port forwarding tutorial.
