Author Topic: Help Corp get a new GPU  (Read 687 times)

Title says all, basically-

a few days ago-
-start up tf2
-continue playing
-after several backstabs, computer freezes, sound loops, and purple pixelated areas everywhere.

The next day-
-start up tf2
-15 minutes later, it happens again
-Restart comp
-startup in normal mode results in a purple instead of black background, and a messed up mouse.
-startup in safemode to check for viruses.

Yesterday-
-Play Tf2 for hours
-blender
-Everything is fine

Today-
-mess around with blender some
-not even that much
-20 minutes ago, blender freezes up along with the whole screen. It's back.

Now-
-downloading driver update for Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
-Thinks about getting new Nvidia card.
-Realizes I need cash for it.
-fffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Just want some input on what other causes there could be.
I removed gamebooster, thinking that was the cause.
Guess not, but that's all I'd like, a small discussion to rule out any other factors.

Also, I'm in safemode right now.

One I'm currently running right now-
Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
Which happens to be dying.

Budget is 100 to 130 bucks for something decent.

Have you checked for any new service packs for your operating system? While I'm not entirely sure what could help, I was having a similar problem except without the pixels where my computer would freeze close to 15-20 minutes after resuming normal operation. I would try and update your system next time you go into regular computer mode before it freezes up again.

Now that you mention it...

EDIT-I think the only way I can update is through windows update which is currently shut down at the moment in safemode.

Your video card died. Its happened to me a lot of times.

They are called artifacts, When that happens it can be the purple pixels, random letters and text on the screen, and tons of other crazy crap.

There is no other way to fix this but by getting a new GPU.

This happened to an FX 5500 I had before, I'd test it in another system if you can to see if it's the card or not.

It happened again, and now I'm in safemode.
Again.

If what you're saying is true, then I might be forgeted.
Or I need to clean the dust out of my comp...

Topic is now about me getting a new GPU.
