I don't know if it's an error or done in purpose, but mind someone tell me why does this happen?
Look closely and you'll find a blue material, but here.

Anyways, I think it is intentional.
Transparent textures are rendered in first person, so I assume the glass polygons on the sight are facing away from the player and backface culling is enabled.

Yes, kind of. The image used for reflections is defined in the maps .dml file (Line seven). Reflections are visible in third and first person view, but they are not visible on the object you're holding (First person). Vehicles can have reflections too, but you can't paint parts that have reflections. The reflections also don't show up on wheels. I don't know if player shapes can have reflections.
