Author Topic: Lag without cause  (Read 827 times)

For quite some time now I've had lag without any visible cause. I've made threads before asking for help, but I still don't have an answer.
Sometimes Blockland will work just fine and dandy, no lag, great connection, etc.
But every once in a while, like now, there is constant lag and the game runs very slowly when and if I start a server. The game will run just fine up until I launch a server. As soon as the game begins loading add-ons, music, and datablocks, the game goes very slowly, and the mouse is a good indicator of the lag- it doesn't move smoothly, and is very jerky. Once I spawn (if I spawn) everything is very slow, and nothing goes as smooth as I would like.
To solve this I've tried disabling many many add-ons, none specifically seem to be causing the lag. I've tried allocating more Ram to Blockland or setting the priority for BL on the task manager to "High." I've tried deleting maps I no longer use, mods I no longer use, I've even gone through each and every one tying to see if it was the problem. I disabled a host of music, turning graphics down, and more. But nothing seems to work.
Every now and then the game just decides to lag without any apparent reason, and will only stop lagging after I leave the computer off for a while, then try again. I know my computer can handle it just fine, I have a great graphics card, 3g of ram, and I can run games like Lord of the Rings online on very high graphic settings without lag.

I believe I've made this sort of topic before, but nobody could seem to understand why I'm having so much lag. It's been a while since I've made one of these topics, so I thought I might as well ask again to see if anybody has learned something that might be the cause since then.

I want to say "God did it" because it's you.

OK serious. Why are you asking for help if the lag has no cause? If it has no cause then what are we gonna do about it.
and then you say it didn't have any visible cause as if the cause disappears when you look at it.
Just because you don't know what's wrong doesn't mean you couldn't know even if you looked more.

Alright, so it's probably your anti virus program updating or some such stuff.

It should be obvious what I meant, that It seems like there is no cause. Obviously there's a reason, I just don't know what it is. I'm not saying that it's impossible for there to be a cause or anything, all I meant was I don't know what's causing it, and nobody else I've talked to has any idea either.
But I guess I'll look into the idea that it might be my antivirus program if that's the only thing you can think of.

I could never think like that since there's always a cause when something happens.

But I guess I'll look into the idea that it might be my antivirus program if that's the only thing you can think of.
ye you do that

Well, as I thought, anti-virus programs didn't affect anything

Anyways, if I didn't make it clear enough before, I'll try and clarify
Just because it seems like there's no cause, doesn't mean I don't think there's a cause. If I thought there wasn't a cause, do you really think I would make this topic? I don't see any apparent cause, so it seems like there isn't one, that doesn't mean that I'm of the belief that there isn't one, it just seems like that.
Now let's please get off the topic over whether or not I believe there is a reason for the lag. Of course there is a reason, I'm asking for help to find that reason, I wouldn't ask for help to find it, if I didn't think there was one.

Your computer is probably not designed to run a blockland server if it lags that much.

But it's done it just fine before, And with a good number of add-ons enabled. Every once in a while it just won't work for a few days, and then it will work again

Hmmm... It might be a problem with the number of files in your pc.
1. Open notepad.
2. Paste this code into it:

echo off
pause
del "C:\temp\*.*"
echo Done.
pause

3. Save it as Cleaner.bat
4. Run it.
5. Press any key.
6. Type in y when it asks you if your sure.
7. Press any key again.
8. Done.

Well that was a brief post that didn't help that much.

It says the system can't find the file specified, I'm guessing I was supposed to insert a file location after \temp?

Oh wait, it's working now, I'll try BL again-

nah, it's still lagging. But if it's the number of files in my computer, do you think it might help if I just clean out some old files in general? Like from my documents, pictures, etc

Yep, you should clean out some general files. I couldn't make a batch file to do that, because I don't know how to make it so that it works for all users. Try cleaning out everything in the downloads folder, chances are all thats in your downloads folder are installers.

This is a Blockland bug. Put trace in console and you will see that some add-on loading function is screwing up.

ok, thanks for the help!

Oh ok, in that case I hope this gets fixed in the big update. If not, it sounds like I can't do anything about it :c

If this is actually a bug in Blockland that you want fixed, I'm going to need more information.
Duplicate the problem with trace on and post your console.log
