Family RPs are horrid. Some guy joined a good medieval RP the other day, and made himself a dog, and started yammering in horrible grammar about whose pet he could be.
He got banned for the reason: "This is not a Family RP."

I think he had it coming.

Personally, I never do well at family RPs because I always have to use a character who doesn't quite fit in. Whether it be a high-tech hero and politician extraordinaire (single, might I add) or a dumb half-ogre, nothing I do really fits.
Good family RPs are impossible to come by with the current subcommunity. I think the Apocalyptic Family RP is the one that comes the closest to the 'survival' sort mentioned above. Who knows.
Personally, I think there is a point where you can't have it all as one family. :/

I host family RPs regularly just because it's the only way to get people to join. Here's a timeline of the server, from start to end.

- I start the server
- I load a build and mess with it, then eventually someone joins
- We both mess around and build
- Several more people join
- They all ask me to adopt them, then get annoyed when I say I'm not RPing
- I ban a few people for spamming, asking for admin, cussing a lot, etc
- Someone becomes a dragon
- Half of the server becomes a dragon
- I join in eventually, usually not really doing a family RP but doing a book-related RP or just sci-fi-ish RP
- One person, either from the start or middle of the server, annoys me
- I argue with them for a while
- Eventually, I get so annoyed I ban them forever and start yelling at everyone in the server, even innocent people
- Several people get scared and leave
- Others get banned for annoying me
- I'm left with one or two people who are good, eventually they get bored and leave
- Server is shut down
- the end

EDIT: Also I agree with the adopting strays thing. If the dog is in the adoption center/humane society, then sure, you can ask to adopt them. But if it's just a random dog on the streets, that doesn't work.

My familyRP has a park, a shop, some hand-made roads, a school where kids go to and houses and a spawnroom.
its fun.

but mostly people just go around in vehicles running over people and crashing into bricks (i have rampaging vehicles for some reason) and then the server gets messed up because of someone's events then i get bored then the end.

Clown RP sounds scary as hell.
