Author Topic: The modern generation against the modern generation and other things  (Read 1181 times)

So obviously there's a lot of "forget the system" and "our generation sucks im the only smart one" stuff going around and all that. Obviously, there are problems in this world, and obviously the world has changed drastically in the last years. And, as we all know, there are always people who don't like change or are outcasted by change or hate how everything works.

In my opinion, thats all total bullstuff.

The world changes, we advance, we move forward, we improve out technology, we use that technology. We have new social norms, we have new ways of viewing others, this stuff happens. Change happens, its not bad to be apart of that change. By going against the change, are you doing anything productive at all? No, not really, just hating the fact that you can't, scratch that, won't be apart of it.

The change is bad? Ok, multiple arguments could be presented to me about this, I'll address a few. Technology and social networking is obviously one of the most prominent developments in the modern day world, and one of the more controversial ones, too. Lets just state some features:
The ability to share anything to thousands of people in under a few seconds
Being able to socialize with people via internet
The ability to contact anyone and anything with a few clicks
The ability to gain information about nearly anything
research
The ability to do tasks that were never humanly possible to achieve before
The ability to mass produce products

And obviously there's a whole bunch of other stuff that is possible because of these great new inventions and social networking, but obviously I'm not going to write a whole paper here. But you get the general idea of what I'm trying to get across, technology improves our lives and social networking is a way to be, basically, more social. Now I can go out with friends, come back, and chat with them and other people about the night I just had, share pictures, all that stuff. Yay, great, how wonderful, I love my friends, they're great people. Nothing like spending more time with them. Downside? Oh, maybe we have less to talk about tomorrow, maybe I uploaded a picture of something I didn't want someone else to see, no biggie.

Before I go on, if its not obvious to you now, I'm one of those guys who you would consider to be "part of the system". I have a facebook, I like modern music (not all of it dear jesus how could you think so low of me) and I like change. I am excited when I hear they are coming out with new stuff and research and all that jazz. I'm that guy who looks like every other guy.

And then the internet! Great way to do pretty much anything not requiring physical labor. I mean, you guys are using it right now, it can't be that bad. Now I can sell that old TV I had in my attic, or look up directions to the local post office, or even email my boss about the latest news on the stock market. And a whole bunch of other stuff you guys probably all know about and I don't need to explain blah blah researchisgood blah blah blah. The internet is great.

Then there's all this other stuff with cars and factories and computers and health stuff and all that good stuff.

Great! I've given you my argument on all this new stuff, its all great. Now I'll just save you guys some time and argue some of the obvious points you are going to throw at me.

Social networking makes people anti-social and takes away the true value of talking to someone. Ok, yeah sure, maybe the need to try to spend every second of my freetime with friends has been eradicated, but I still know how to talk to people. I can still have an engaging conversation with my friends, I can still talk to someone for hours without feeling the need to go update my status or something.

And then we get into afshffjfjfj forget this stuff

Just discuss modern day friends and modern day friends against modern day friends. I don't feel like making three posts full of stuff. I'll just argue whatever you guys post.

tl;dr People against modern day society are stupid and trying to be cool.

My view on this entire situation.

Isn't a generation a group of kids (usually large) growing up at a similar age at the same time?

Then the older kids (13-17) are a different generation than those who are younger (4-12).  Which would you call the modern generation?

tl;dr People against modern day society are stupid and trying to be cool.

I'm angry against society for a good reason, and I'm not trying to act cool. I've been hating society before it was cool.

/hipsterglasses

your generation does suck.
you guys got your reading and math down.
but for some reason your history and current world events; you are all lacking knowledge.

yes our generation sucks D:

we just sit at our computers all day

dat progress

8 Year olds with Iphones, short skirts, stuffed bras.
5 Year olds telling teens that they walk passed that they are 'fuqin homo cigarettes cigaretteget"
This generation needs to be eliminated and remade, I will gladly accept death if it means I'm taking the rest of these forgets with me.
In fact I'm surprised I have been able to contain my homicidal rage for so long.
Also everyone that says SWAG.

You're lucky.

Isn't it normal to be disappointed in a generation of duckfacing whores and scumbagging Jersy Shore fanboys?

Yeah man, I wish I was an idiot, could smoke weed all the time, paint myself orange and all kinds of dumb crap. This generation of kids rocks!

And this. Yup, we're just trying to "be cool" by not being like all the other mistakes, OP.

Look at this. Who doesn't want to be like the rest of this generation? I'll tell ya' who, friends. Yup, this generation is obviously filled with geniuses. Everyone who can't realize this is a hipster and is just trying to be cool and stray from the real cool guys.

I love this thead.

It's annoying as hell to see people whine and bitch about "how bad this generation is".

Yeah man, I wish I was an idiot, could smoke weed all the time, paint myself orange and all kinds of dumb crap. This generation of kids rocks!

Cry some more friend. Every generation had done dumb stuff.

At least it wasn't as bad as this.
