Please help! I'm 10 years old so I can't buy a security program but the current one is swallowing up all of the space on my computer! The CPU is an intel pentium dual core...

install Microsoft Security Essentials
It's about 5000 times better than mcafee and norton combined.

Is the antivirus program actually doing a scan right now?

He's right. I use MS Security Essentials. If your mom asks just say you replaced it with a licensed anti-virus from Microsoft.

No, she's really uptight about that kind of thing and would complain about something where "MCAFEE IS BETTER THEN FREE STUFF" as if she knows a lot more, yet I've used this computer twice as much as her.
