Author Topic: Views Thread #1: Nuclear Power  (Read 1113 times)

Because I like questioning all of you on your political views. Anyway, what do you guys think about nuclear power? It's a pretty big debate in Japan right now, for obvious reasons, but I was wondering what BLF thinks of it.

I don't mind it.
It works so long as you keep it away from dangerous zones (So away from Earthquake/Hurricane/Tsunami hotspots) and you don't try stupid experiments with them.

It's a less polluting way to produce power than through fossil fuels and is much more reliable than Wind/Solar/Wave power.

I don't know all the intricacies behind all the Pros and Cons of Nuclear Power, but I can't see a big problem with it.

And for silly thoughts, I have always wondered about, when people ask what to do with nuclear waste, why can't it just be fired in a rocket to the sun or similar?
Again, not knowing intricacies in that concept, but I just think of that when the argument of waste comes up.

But then again, I don't know enough to make an entirely infomed desicion over any of it.

Nuclear power is the ultimate power

I long for the day I have nuclear powered sneakers

I did an entire enviromental project on nuclear power, and let me tell you something:

nuclear waste is going to forget us all over. it's too hard to get rid of and we're going to run out of waste space soon.

honestly, the risks for nuclear power are too high. Chernobyl, Three mile island, Fukushima, the disasters just go on and on.

I want nuclear powered quantam computer processors that run at 20Ghz

But sneakers sound cool.

I did a report on West Virginia so obviously I can say everyone in West Virginia is stupid.

Anyway, we're not running out of space (see Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository) and Chernobyl  and Three Mile Island's reactors are much different than literally any of the reactors that exist in the US.

Maybe you should have done better research?

I am ok. As long is it far away form homes and farms and the waste is disposed far far away form anyone

id be walking down the street and this hot chick walks by and sees the plant life im destroying with each step and shelll be like "omg ur so hot and so powerful" and id be like yea

Too bad west virginia doest exist isnt there only like a north and south dakota

Not to mention Fukushima was caused by a Tsunami/Earthquake.
Had it been a Coal or Gas plant on the shore it too could easily have been damaged to an extent to cause a full failure.

I find Fukushima to be too much a freak accident for it to be considered proof of nuclear power stations being dangerous.

The Simpsons makes everyone think that nuclear energy is really dangerous

the waste is heavy, and it would be a waste of resources to do so in my opinion. In any case, if there were to be a rocket failure and it exploded on the ground or in the atmosphere, it would be catastrophic. Also, I think the reactors are pretty cool. I live by one and its not very dangerous or threatening

Make them farther underground, say about 2 miles, and im good.

My second equally childish concept is to dispose of the waste in a volcano.
Unless we're like to have an eruption from it, surely that would be safe?
The waste would be trapped in molten rock or shift underground and dispersed through the mantle, surely?

They've developed ways for nuclear waste to be re-used to produce power.

And Chernobyl was caused because the guys in charge failed to heed the safety rules and had disabled the safety system. And there was also the fact that the technology was rather new at the time so there was obviously going to be "hiccups" that unfortunately climaxed in a explosion. Current nuclear technology is a helluva lot safer. To the point that there would be no possible way for a explosion to happen.

Fukushima was also using NPP technology from the same era as Chernobyl that had known faults that the people in charge didn't bother to fix or replace. And then there's the fact that a loving tsunami crashed into it.
