Author Topic: Is there a way past the mandatory 20 phys vehicle limet?  (Read 1518 times)

And if so, how? It's kinda hard to have a massive aerial based combat themed server with only 10 vehicles on each team.

You can't. It's impossible.

ffs Then why is there even an option to change that? Damn, BL is getting worse every time it's updated.

Compensate by using air vehicles that support multiple people, maybe even some player-operated turrets on the ground to shoot down enemy vehicles.

Your ID suggests you joined sometime mid 2010. v13, which added this change, was released in 2009.

v14, and I think Wizzard's [SS] Dogfight server had a little over 20 vehicles. 6 aircraft, 2 boats, and 3 or 4 AA's on each carrier. My memory might be exaggerating, though

And my plan was to have several P-51's, an A-10, a Skycrane, several other heli's and a buncha ground vehicles to raid the enemy's "concrete island." Sounds very strange and unorganized on the timeline, but also sounds fun (as long as people don't asshat too much or get a CoD mentality)

I originally was going to have a carrier-launched assault on GTT Viano, but then v21 was announced and I doubt my scripter/animator will get around to scripting/animating about 5 weapons for me before v21 comes out.I also gotta touch up on the models first.

Nope, we were limited to 20 at that time. If we host the dogfight again though we plan on using around 32.

As Jetz said, use vehicles like the Biplane or some kind of helicopter to get people around. This actually works very well; ScatteredSpace had a successful dogfight server for a long time with only 20 vehicles.

Sorry for double posting.

I've probably been playing too much BF2 PR lately, but I was thinking have the A-10 for CAS (close air support) the P51's to keep the other fighters off the CAS, 1 or 2 normal Huey's for transportation, The skycrane for bringing ground vehicles in, an Apache for the hell of it, and the ground vehicles to reek havoc on the enemy base.

I only just realized the baserape factor that having the skycrane and ground assets would render, I guess I just wanted an excuse to use GCat's Humvee. But you gotta admit, that thing is awesome.

But as for the roles stated above, I'm probably hoping for too much, considering 90% of all Blocklanders don't have the patience to fill a certain role rather then running around doing whatever. Though it'd be nice to integrate PR's reality factor with BL's ability to build whatever you want

And I've been wandering, a while back I threw in a suggestion to make squads in Slayer, you said you'd consider it. Any chance you'll put it in?

I've had a 42-vehicle dogfight using the Intel® Core™ i7-920 (quad), my first hosting server, however I ran into problems using AMD Athlon™ II (quad), my current hosting server, and had to stop at 20.

The vehicles were arranged as such:
     X

X    Y     X

where X = 13 vehicles and Y = 3 vehicles

Each group of vehicles was out of viewing range of the others, meaning no more than 20 vehicles in one "map range" at a time. I'm not quite sure how it works and why the limit is 20.

Put $Pref::Server:MaxPhysVehicles_Total = 30; in console and look whether it works.

This is not a solution, this is paving the way for more problems.

How does it make more problems.

Some computers may be able to handle many more than 20, but that is not taking networking into consideration. 200 vehicles might be fine for the host of the server alone with a supercomputer, but you have to consider other players, too. Twenty players means your game has to send the high-priority vehicle status updates to twenty different people. Those people also have some simulation going on client-side to compensate for lag, and it's pretty unlikely that everyone could handle them all, especially when those lag compensation simulations are working overdrive because the server isn't sending out updates because it's spreading itself thin between the nineteen other players.

Twenty is a reasonable limit, often enough for pretty much any standard server. You should try to work around the limit, not through it.
I noticed when I retrieved that quote that you acted like an idiot in the thread it was originally in, too:
Maybe he just want to place 2000 vehicles to complain that it is laggy as hell. So if you have a solution HOW TO GET MORE VEHICLES then post it, otherwise shut up about that the limit has a reason everyone knows it and it does not help.

YES, it is very easy to do but it has to be done BEFORE you start the server.

Hmm, only seems to work in LAN
