Author Topic: Where can I find a nice Modeling program? + Other questions.  (Read 2236 times)

Okay, so I have a few questions. For some reason I'm interested in learning how to model.

What are some good modeling programs?

How hard is it to learn how to model? (No scripting or coding, just modeling.)

Are there any FREE modeling programs?

Modeling is kinda hard to learn, but anyone I believe can learn to do it well.
Blender is free, probably the best choice for you.
Good luck!

Can you/anyone give me some information on modeling? Like how it is like, or just info in general.

I use sketch up (non-pro) and it easy to start with but you will find some stuff hard, also you need to also export it into blender to do the exporting to .dts
blender and sketch up are free

Watch all the video tutorials. Helped me a ton. I remember when starting out I just mindlessly copied everything they did on the video and learned the interface that way. You most certainly want to use Blender 2.61 for modeling. Blender 2.49b should be use for exporting only.

A Twig has a good tutorial for Milkshape

I think Shaper is Abandonware, so you can "crack" it here.

Don't use shaper to model your stuff, it's not all that good.
Blender is free, and with the correct tutorials, easy to learn.
This is the video I watched to learn the entire 2.49 interface.
It's a bit long, but I learned a lot.
This is the video for the entire interface for the current version of blender.

As for animation, you'll have to do that in 2.49.
Here's a version demian posted with the exporter already installed.
And here's another topic on some of the basic stuff for blender

Google Sketch-Up is the easiest modeling program, and is very easy to create blocko or highly detailed models with it.

It can also export to any format, it has thousands of free plugins, and even more tutorials.

In my opinion Sketch-up would be a good starting place. Pretty nice easy program with good exporting options. Of course I still suck at using it but whatever

2.49 is terrible for modeling compared to 2.61. There is no reason not to model in 2.61.

Downloading blender now.

EDIT: the only thing I'm worried about is Symmetry.

Yes, you've said that already.
The only reason i posted a tutorial anyway because some people prefer to work in 2.49 sometimes.

Milkshape 3D is personally my favorite and many other people's favorites.

Of course, you have to pay for it, so I'm not sure if you want it.

It's literally built for Blockland, super easy to use, has all you need, and you can whip stuff up fast. I remember trying it, and I literally learned completely from scratch. I didn't use any tutorials as I I think it's better to self learn than be taught; like scripting.

So if you're aiming for some nice Blockland stylish guns, use Milkshape. If you have any questions, go on, ask me or message me.

if your looking to make nice blockland stuff use blender. if you're looking to do more than nice blockland stuff, use blender. case closed
