I don't understand the "Of mice and men" one. Someone care to explain?

I'm assuming you never read it, so I'll give you some background. George and Lennie are two guys who are working on a ranch. Lennie has a mental disability, so he is very simple minded. George is basically his caretaker. After Lennie accidentally kills the boss' son's wife, he goes into the hiding. When he guy finds out he killed her, he grabs his shotgun and goes to hunt him down and kill him. George told him to hid in a specific area, so he found him there. George knew that Lennie did not know any better because of his disability, so he shot him in the back of the head when he was unaware in order to give him a panless death compared to the shotgun to the guts the other guy was going o give him. Very good book.
