Ive always been curious, and could never find any really good answers. I know the developers need to get paid for their work, but I dont understand how games cost upwards of 100 million dollars to produce.

Why?

Because hats

and legal programs

Publishing, advertisements, paying the workers, hiring outside contracts, actually shipping it and mass producing the disks, to name a few.

I also hear it costs money to put more polygons and stuff in the game.
Is that because they have to update the engine or...

It cost to get stuff into stores i'm pretty sure
Then they pay for the copy rights so people don't steal it
The better the game the more workers.
