Author Topic: Russia's toughest prisons  (Read 5649 times)

Only government can make something as simple as dying more expensive than living.

Death sentences are pointless, it's just "Oh, I committed a heinous crime! Guess I'm going to be killed now, oh well".
Life sentences like these provide a lifetime of psychological and physical torment, it may use up more resources but it is by far the most effective method of punishing the scum of the earth.
Such a pity that the western world doesn't have a proper life sentence, nor any way to stop repeat offenders that aren't even afflicted by a mental condition that makes them do what they do

The proper purpose of punishment is to educate someone of their wrongdoings, if you're in prison for life, you're not getting out, therefore the punishment is pointless. You may emotionally decimate the offender if that's what you so desire, but at the end of the day what is it worth? The plaintiff probably won't be around to witness the punishment.

A Death sentence can be conducted cheaply and solves the problem. Plus death sounds more of a deterrent than a life sentence. Metaphorically speaking, would you rather have a needle shoved into you as quickly as possible or have it go slowly, bearing a dull pain the whole way through.

I mean come loving on, is there some sort of apestuff humanitarian in charge?

How can you argue that prisons like that are unnecessary because of innocent people going to them, yet suggest the death penalty is okay? What about innocent people then?

But why do that when you can make them suffer for their wrongdoings? Make them suffer as their victims and all the people they have affected did?
Call me a sadist, but I'm a firm believer of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth

I meant that in a society with a loser pays legal system would the death penalty work, because it can better sort out the truly guilty from the truly innocent.

No, if there were a death penalty right now that would be bad.

I find that immoral and darkage.

I had a philosophy classed based around this discussion and there was compelling evidence everywhere that in America, the death penalty was either inappropriately used (race driven, or failed innocent people) or was badly executed (lethal injection administrators doing a sloppy job so the person suffers hideously rather than being out cold before death).

I disapprove greatly. I like Norway's style.

just imagine the rape that goes on here.

prison rape.

Oh well, that's just your opinion

just imagine the rape that goes on here.

prison rape.

I only watched the first part but, they don't seem to be allowed to socialize with anyone but their cell mate.

I think after a while it'd go from rape to affection if you were that starved for human interaction. :U

I don't think you can really do much if you're being monitored 24/7 by several people

I can understand your view, and I also partially believe for an eye for an eye, but that couldn't be directly applied here. You can't recreate what happened in that scenario without another person becoming a victim. Also, you watched the video. For example, the cannibal, he was laughing as he was describing that he gave it to someone who unknowingly fed it to their children. This isn't just a prison, it's a mental institution. These people are emotionally crippled. They might even enjoy being there and thinking about what they've done. Keep in mind that these people are almost subhuman. Keeping them alive only extends their sad existence on this planet.

Makes me actually feel proud of my own country

yes, I'm russian

Oh yeah of course haha.

An eye for an eye doesn't have to be applied precisely, it can be applied through other methods, isolation, psychological and physical torment achieve the same results.

Besides, it's not like our opinions will change a thing anyway, Russia will keep doing it this way for the next hundred years and I will agree with their methods for the next hundred years
