Author Topic: I am starting to get into filmmaking  (Read 1779 times)

I am a wannabe eksi!
Here is my first short clip. It is just a test for if I actually should get into the hobby

Tell me what you guys think!

Love it!
What's the music you used at the end, because I love that as well.

Not very good to be honest, seeing as anyone can get fraps and record something random. But then again, thats how pretty much every blockland video goes.

But keep going at it, but try putting dialogue and some cool effects in the videos as those make them more pretty.

It's called "garden party"

I appreciate your input! I want to try putting dialogue in

Well I wouldn't summarize most videos made with Blockland as "1- get fraps  2- record something random," that's quite an understatement.
But yeah, keep going and hopefully you'll get better. unlike some untalented filmmakers :c

Thank you two for the music!
Anyway, I look forward to seeing more videos.

Since you want to have a successful Blockland channel I'm going to be blunt and tell you what you need to know. No sugar coating.

I found this video uneventful and boring.

The guy being sprayed by a can was perceived as failed random humor. Its really, really cliched.

You also made two mistakes; one of not getting rid of the Fraps logo with a letterbox effect, and two by having a quarter of your video taken up by really slow unnecessary credits.

3/10

You have a long way to go if you want to come close to a channel like Eksi's I recommend:

- Better editing, make it cleaner and more interesting (but don't over do the effects, keep it simple)
- Better camera angles, and more interesting shots
- Know what you are doing before you film, you have made a very typical video that to me suggests you started a server and tried to make it up as you went along
- Don't add credits, or if you do, make them no more than 6% of the video run time (4 seconds of credits in your 1 minute video would be more than enough)
- Be considerate about music, don't just find some OGG you have in your Blockland folder

You have rushed this. Enjoy the process, enjoy making it. Nobody wants to watch videos like this in a world where Blockland videos are becoming more and more common.

is it me or are all of your posts involving feedback unnecessarily long and detailed

I was expecting filmmaking, not machinima making.

Anyways, some tips..
Don't letterbox your videos, let YouTube do it automatically.
Don't change music without transition.
Don't have an opening or credits. Nobody cares.
Lastly, in camera effects are the best. You're in a video game, so they're doubly best.

Here's some Machnima I've racked up over the years:

Railrider (GMod)
Beta Tower (Blockland)
Aspect Ratio Test (Blockland) (You can see I left Sony Vegas' motion blur on.)
JPod Ad (Blockland) (Chroma keying? What's that?)

I think it's a good thing, it's better than someone being completely useless.

It's really not.

Thanks for the feedback guys (especially Sheath)
I just have a question, how do I keep chasecam to stay in one spot?

Also, I would love to help you with any videos.

Does anybody know a way to make a letterbox effect without something like Sony Vegas? At the moment I can't afford any video editing program, and I want to get rid of that annoying Fraps logo, :/
