They do change, but no over the course of a few days, many have claimed to have "changed," but eventually they exhibit their old habits and don't actually change at all. In Abelbotox's case he would have to improve his logic in arguements and stop using commas very frequently. He also needs to stop making handicapped, irrelevant, or unneeded posts. Eventually he'll get banned for some stupid post he made and he can reflect on that for the duration of the ban, but until then I predict that he will not suddenly become a model citizen.

The point we're trying to make is that we have tried, he's just being too thick skulled to listen to us. He either ignores what advice we give him or (as Kill All stated) takes it as an insult and tries to make a comeback.

Destroyer made a good brown townogy earlier, too. If someone walks in a supermarket and starts pulling stupid stuff and insulting people, are you going to try to teach them not to do that? No, you're going to kick them out because they're being a pain in the ass. That goes for here, too: if someone starts tossing insults (even if he/she may be new), chances are you aren't going to spend a lot of time trying to straighten them out.

It wasn't quite the best brown townogy for this.  If you could give me some posts on how you've "tried" to help him then I would be satisfied.  I know The Corporation made a statement, which was blunt as said himself.

It was a perfectly suitable brown townogy for the situation.

Personally, I haven't done much for or against ABEL (really, the only thing I've really said about him was 'typical 8 year old rp'er that refuses to admit he got beaten'), so I wouldn't be able to provide any examples of me trying to help him out. However, taking a look through one of the bigger dramas on him may yield some results.
