Author Topic: How do I stop failing at typing?  (Read 2860 times)

For me, Home row is absolute bullstuff.

For me, when I lay my fingers down, I just have my hands fly all over the keyboard.
People who use the "home row" thing fails. I don't follow it almost no one does.

don't learn it look at the keyboard it is the best way

I memorized it :P
You should see the people at my school type -_- They peck type.
Peck typing is when you hit it 1 key per like 3 seconds using one finger pecking the keys like a chicken. Once they hit the 1/4th mark complete I'm finished and I'm not the best typer either.

I begin typing using the wasd keys as the basic placement for me
video gaming has helped me so much in life it's not even funny
yeah, video games have taught me pretty much everything i know about the computter, i never had to take classes or anything it just came naturaly after enough video games! wooo violence

Blockland Forums helped me learn the grammar I do know. I even know how to use 's :D

Its done hard wired into my brain so now when I write I include the 's

My position:

Left pinky: Shift
Left ring finger: A
Left middle finger: W
Left pointer finger: E
Left thumb: Space

Right pinky: Enter
Right ring finger: L
Right middle finger: I
Right pointer finger: J
Right thumb: Space

I usually hold shift with my left thumb or left pinky, I always press space with my thumb, I press backspace with my ring finger, I use apostrophes and commas with my right pointer finger and I never cross the TY GH VB line with either hand- it's basically the keyboard segregation line.

Your comments are invalid due to your face.

How do you know I even have a face?

Stop trying to conform to this bullstuff "homekeys are the best keys" rule. Just type how you feel like it.

My fingers are sprawled out all over the place on the keyboard and I type faster than probably everyone in my class who spend more time texting and messaging on facebook than I do.

My digital arts teacher tried telling me this but I typed way faster than she did. 2x faster actually.

I developed pretty much a slanted version of the home row typing style.
Meaning my index fingers are on the top row and my left pinkie is on the shift button and my right is on the bottom row somewhere. I type very fast and efficiently this way.
People in my computer class describe me typing like "a bat out of hell."

I type very fast and never bothered to learn the "home row keys" bullstuff.

Meaning, if it were me I just wouldn't learn it.

If you're really committed, practice makes perfect.

I just use my left middle finger, left ring finger, left index finger, and my right index finger

Oh god I found someone who does exactly what I do

I dont use the "home row" thingy. When I use my keyboards my left hand sits on the WASD keys while my right hand sits on "OKL;"

My fingers just rest however on the keyboard.  The "home row" bullstuff is just useless, though.  Let your fingers sit where ever you feel them most comfortable to sit on.  Use your fingers accordingly to hit the keys you want from there.  From there on, it's practice practice practice to get higher speeds.

Eventually, you'll get so good that you can just look at text and not have to even look at your keyboard in order to type things out.  That's how I can take notes in lectures so quickly, I just stare at the power point projection and type without even looking at my own screen.

>Network goes down
  -Figure out why
-Learned how to fix internet connections,
>Game is Slow
  -Google for answers
    -Learn about updating drivers

And it seems I am the only one who naturally rests on the home row keys. I didn't learn it from  a teacher or anything, I passively do it.
