Author Topic: New form of Malware; Ransomware  (Read 3682 times)

It's scary how criminals come up with illegal software.

A recent discovery found a new form of malware called Ransomware which "locks" your computer.

Retrieving money from victims is it's primary objective but my main worry is it's completely removing all functionality of the computer. A lot of us on this forum are knowledgeable enough to know that this is not genuine however elderly or disabled people will find this very distressing for them to get.

Know anyone that may have experienced a piece of malware similar to this?

give us the money or the computer gets it

Holy stuff, here's your money!

Ive never encountered this but i did encounter a virus that was annoying it deemed the computer unusable
my mom got this virus and the only thing it did was every 5 seconds a small window popped up with a symbol of some ladybug with googly eyes
and had some text that was part error part computer code or some stuff
literally ever FIVE loving seconds this thing popped up
we couldn't open any programs on the computer without it popping up
the only program we could open was the browser we used and we were able to download Combofix which is like some powerfull antivirus
and it finally went away when we used it
my god it was a stressfull virus

Holy stuff, here's your money!

thank you for your credit card number.

i wonder if they check if the credit card is valid/has money in it before granting the computer, if they even stop their virus

People still get viruses? :cookieMonster:

Even when I used the most virus prone family of OSes, I didn't get viruses.

#2: Don't click on any ad ever
#3: Come to terms with yourself and realize that the number of anti-viruses you download are probably the cause of the malware on your computer

I use NoScript instead of Adblocker and it works amazingly well. When I want to test websites I don't trust I use a Win XP virtual machine.

Windows XP: The golden standard of security.

How do they expect to get in contact with the victim?

Might as well since I got 10+ XP keys because they're not selling Windows XP in shops anymore (maybe for compatibility).

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH

This isn't new.
Maybe for you it isn't but for numerous websites regarding security and computers it is.

Haha, looks like my country isn't a victim. (United States)

I once heard that some viruses are strong enough to break through the virtual machine and into the actual system.
