Author Topic: A good graphics card for Blockland  (Read 2551 times)

No where in the loving world would you need 16gb of RAM to play a videogame.
Idc
Oh, so by "not enough" you mean more "people seem to still want more"?

that makes sense
Yep

3GB because his stuffty windows XP 32bit can only handle about 3.5 gigs of ram.

Actually on topic: will that graphics card that I mentioned work?

and at least one GTX690 (not out yet)

they've been out for at least a week .....

Idc
Yeah some people (you) just like throwing their money away on something that will not make any difference. The only thing you're accomplishing is "HAHA I HAVE MORE LOOK HOW MUCH BIGGER MY E-PEEN IS"

That stuff that I get on xmas
Let me guess: It'll be an Alienware?

Anyways OP, the card you listed should work, though I'd wait for more people to suggest other options before you make a purchase.

Any non-integrated card should do the trick (I'd avoid Radeons. Y U No fully support OpenGL)
For the cheaper cards just mess with the graphics settings until it runs nicely.  Also I'd put draw distance on auto (see options->advanced).  If it's a laptop....well...tough luck i guess

Maybe
I could guess by your general lack of computer knowledge in this thread.

OP, how much are you willing to spend? Other people could provide you with other options.

So
Nope

Noedit: I skipped through half your post and didn't see that you already answered this.
What about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500239

Keep in mind both this one and the one you linked use PCIe x16 2.0, however your motherboard only has a PCIe x16, which has half the bandwidth. I'm not sure how much these cards would use, but you might not gain the card's full performance

So
Nope
What?

Half of your posts in this thread.
'3gb on a 32bit OS isn't enough! I have 16gb and that's still not enough!'
This is a fine example of either not knowing what your talking about, or throwing away money in a petty attempt to feel superior.

Also, posts like "your stuff computer makes me want to Self Delete" does nothing to contribute to the thread.

Sorry for the long wait.

That card looks good. The slot the computer has is PCIe  x16 2.0. I don't really care if the card runs on half performance, I just want one that works and is better than the "directly attached to the motherboard" thing.

My max spending is $50. I don't think its necessary to get anything that can run Half life at 300 fps.

Being said that it now has 3GB and a decent card, I think it will be just fine for Blockland (minecraft too maybe).

Last thing: should the card be low profile (no fan), or should it have a fan? The noise doesn't matter since the case fan rattles loudly anyways.

The HP page on your computer says otherwise. Unless you're not using the original motherboard. Though without having even an idea on how much bandwidth the card would use, I can't say if it would even matter.

I'd be a little concerned if this card couldn't run a 14 year old game that well.
Though I assume you mean Half Life 2, which still is not very graphic intensive.

Low profile doesn't mean whether it has a fan or not, it's how big the card is. The card that I linked is low profile.
If your fan is rattling I'd take a look at that.

How did you get the idea that I lack PC knowledge

This, so much this.

Oops. I must have said that because my I was cleaning my father's ATI Radeon because it had so much dust and other crap in it, and it has a 2.0 slot.

Yeah I meant Half Life 2. I've heard its a demanding game for graphics (on high options of course)

And having a fan or not doesn't determine it's profile? I swear every card that I browsed didn't have a fan, and I was assuming fans made noise and that made the profile higher.

About the rattling: He's had it for 2 years and nothing had changed. I monitored the hardware temperatures in the BIOS and it seemed stable. I also took out the fan and I've tried everything to soup it up. I might buy a new one, but whats the use?
