Author Topic: Computer was attacked by a virus and wiped.  (Read 1965 times)

So I have a computer downstairs that people don't really use anymore, but we just keep on just incase.
So today I turn it on and everything on my desktop is gone. All my documents and everything are gone. Okay this is weird, so I try to restart it and it says something weird is missing. So my first conclusion is that it was a victim of either a worm or a trojan. Whats gone is gone, now it is what I am to do with it's carcas.

Im thinking about either installing Vista or Ubuntu 12.04 onto it. Im probably going to go with Ubuntu since I'm more familiar with Linux systems (VIM is really nice :c). So what should I do? Post suggestions here.

I really hope you're not intending to throw away your computer because it got infected by malware.

Wipe it and reinstall the OS

Install Gentoo because I heard that's fun.

Isn't Gentoo a blockland user who makes futuristic ME servers?

Maybe you got RATTED or something.

I have the following operating systems on disk:
•Windows Vista
•Mac OSX 1.5.6
•Ubuntu 12.04
:D

Ubuntu because the other two are obsolete beyond compare

I'd go with Ubuntu since Steam should receive Linux support soon as well as the linux platform having amazing security so no more malware.
