I'm of legal age to smoke tobacco currently (But not old enough to purchase it or any related products).
But I will not smoke tobacco.
I know the damage it does to you and I've sadly lost relatives to cancer caused from long-term smoking.
However, when I turn 18 and I can legally purchase alcohol on my own, I have no doubt that I will drink it.
I can already legally order alcohol with a meal at a resteraunt and drink it and have been able to drink it in private with an appropriate adult for years.
And I have drunk alcohol before. I like it. Not all kinds, but some I do.
And I would drink alcohol. That doesn't mean I will be an alcoholic. And it doesn't mean I would binge.
I'm more than likely going to get drunk properly at University or later on in life...
But that doesn't mean I'll exactly be signing my own death sentence.
Compared to smoking, alcohol is much safer, particularly when taken in moderation.
That doesn't mean always having a glass a day either. It could mean having it occasionally in small quantities.
You don't have to go and drink 3 bottles of whatever by yourself. You can happily enjoy a drink with a meal or a trip to the pub with friends or a few drinks at a night out.
