Use the "free" fraps.

Camstudio works fine for me.  Never had a problem with it.

I hate how people bitch about FRAPS being not free.
Screen capturing is not a simple thing.
Well, yes, it is, but doing it in realtime while saving it to disk is not.
Especially if you want file compression. Doing video compression on the fly is like trying to get car keys out of your left pocket with your right hand while at a full sprint.

Camstudio always output laggy video for me.
