Author Topic: BAFTA Young Game Designers Competition  (Read 1092 times)

It's that time of year again!

If you haven't seen the competition before, http://ygd.bafta.org/enter-now
If you're too lazy to read, anyone between the ages of 11-16 can enter, and the prizes are the Concept Award or Game Making Award + money.

Just wondering if anyone here is entering.

I lol'd when the winning concept was a game where you play as a roll of scotch tape. A game with such complexity such as that would literally take an hour to make.

My thoughts exactly. I bet someone here could easily beat that.

it's british though, don't you have to be there in person.

I have a mere game engine outline next to me that is better.

Ugh.

*shrug* You'll have to check it yourself. I don't worry about these things, living in Britland and all that.

I personally thought the runners up, Team Defying Gravity had a really great concept, if their game was made, I would buy it, I really think they should have won, what a shame.

Enter as two teams of two?

Unless you all need eachother. In that case, you have my sympathy.

Acceptable file formats include Scratch (.sb), Kodu (.kodu) Windows Executable (.exe – this includes files created using GameMaker), MissionMaker (.mission), Flash (.swf), Algodoo (.phz), Java (.java), Unity (.unity3d) and HTML (.html). Please note that if you are submitting a HTML game, all the necessary game files should be collected together in a single .zip file.

this is an insult to actual programmers.

You forgot Algodoo.

So they ask for the binaries for everything except for Java, where they ask for the sources...?
Also, any Java program more complex than Hello World is more than one file, lol. They should ask for the jar instead. Oh, and the part about scratch/kodu/GM is true, but I suspect that that's what you have to expect when the name says young.

EDIT:
And then I actually clicked through and saw

The maximum file size is 15MB.
This better be some kind of joke.

And after that I saw that the form is actually hosted on a separate domain and is embedded with an iframe. Time to get the pitchforks.
