Do you even read before you post and see how much sense your posts don't make?
If you make files read-only and the game updates, the game can't edit the file if the file is edited during the update.

So basically you do in fact screw it up.

A while ago I made a script to change this. Just put your own jump sound in the zip and overwrite the one in there already.

Although it doesn't do any of the hacky overwriting files stuff, so that's always a plus.
