Apparently the definition of a carry is not: "One who carries"

Keep on propagating your stupid definitions. Even though the creators of the game describe a carry as someone who carries. And the metaphor from which the term was derived describes a carry as someone who carries.
So tell me more about how you speak for riot.
Even though the meaning of carry has been "ADC" and it has stayed that way since S1.

im talking about when someone says carry you refer to ad champions that use autoattacks as there main dps.

olaf and shy come close to being carries but they their kit is focused on being a bruiser because there abilites do good damage with just ad not lifesteal, crit, atk speed.

however ranged ad champions need to build those things because their kit doesnt allow them to build ad and tanky
Yes, a ranged champion like Caitlin is most likely to carry, and has the greatest potential. But you only fulfill the role of carry when you are carrying.

What has happened is the word has been twisted in a way where people think that a champion is carry regardless of how someone plays them due to the fact that people will call you what they want you to be, not what you are.
For example:
I'm sure you have been a game where someone played a champion who could be a tank or a not tank based on how they are played. During one of these games, it is likely that an AD squishy champion got upset and said, "Guy playing the champion who could be a tank, you are the tank! I keep dying because you are not tanking!" In reality, this person was not playing as a tank, which is perfectly fine, and therefore he was not a tank, but was labled as such because the AD squishy champion wanted him to be.

In a similar way, sometimes people get frustrated at the AD squishy champions because they are supposed to scale well into late game and carry the team. However, they don't always do that. So someone says, "Squishy AD champion, you are the carry. Carry us!"  However, the person playing the squishy AD champion is not carrying and is therefore not a carry. But because in the meta he is supposed to be, people call him that.

So when you call Caitlin a carry, you are calling her what you want her played as, not what she might be played as.

Riot spoke for Riot in the world championships when they stated a carry was a champion that carries the team.

even if caitlyn built a warmogs you would refer to them as a carry not a tank

If I played a game with Caitlyn and she built only tanky items and no damage. I would not refer to her as the carry. I might tell her that she should be carrying, but she would not be the carry.

you might not refer to her as a carry, but everyone else would

So uh, explain tryndamere?
He has one ability that does damage. AA Is basically his only DPS
The only thing i ever see tryndamere's build is
lifesteal, crit, atk speed.

Dude he's AP look at them ratios

Just something I wanna throw out there, a little PSA for y'all... I didn't have this happen recently or anything but more people need to know it:

A champion kill is about 15 minions worth of gold and about 10 minions worth of xp.

This is why Akali/Kassadin/other short range mid is stupid; it doesn't matter if you don't die if you are harassed out of getting last hits or even minion xp. If you and your opponent reach level 6 with no kills or deaths but they're 20 CS ahead of you, they basically have 1 or 2 kills on you depending on how long they kept you out of XP range. If the lane phase ends and they have 40 CS on you, thanks for feeding mid.

Also the poll makes me rage. It says "favorite role?" and then it has a mix of positions and champion kits. If a tristana played at mid what the hell would you people even call it.
here i'll change it just for you

jesus christ are people playing bot fiddlesticks as the ad now or something?

I still prefer it to be "ADC/Solo Top/Mid/Support/Jungle" Because those are the roles people call ingame.

So apparently I can't log in because the servers are busy

i realized i cant play top for crap

however i win about 90% of my mid lanes :)

Jungle isn't a lane lol
