im talking about when someone says carry you refer to ad champions that use autoattacks as there main dps.
olaf and shy come close to being carries but they their kit is focused on being a bruiser because there abilites do good damage with just ad not lifesteal, crit, atk speed.
however ranged ad champions need to build those things because their kit doesnt allow them to build ad and tanky
Yes, a ranged champion like Caitlin is most likely to carry, and has the greatest potential. But you only fulfill the role of carry when you are carrying.
What has happened is the word has been twisted in a way where people think that a champion is carry regardless of how someone plays them due to the fact that people will call you what they want you to be, not what you are.
For example:
I'm sure you have been a game where someone played a champion who could be a tank or a not tank based on how they are played. During one of these games, it is likely that an AD squishy champion got upset and said, "Guy playing the champion who could be a tank, you are the tank! I keep dying because you are not tanking!" In reality, this person was not playing as a tank, which is perfectly fine, and therefore he was not a tank, but was labled as such because the AD squishy champion wanted him to be.
In a similar way, sometimes people get frustrated at the AD squishy champions because they are supposed to scale well into late game and carry the team. However, they don't always do that. So someone says, "Squishy AD champion, you are the carry. Carry us!" However, the person playing the squishy AD champion is not carrying and is therefore not a carry. But because in the meta he is supposed to be, people call him that.
So when you call Caitlin a carry, you are calling her what you want her played as, not what she might be played as.
