Author Topic: Steam Download can't do maths  (Read 921 times)

When I go on my Downloads page on Steam, it says that the estimated finishing time is faster when the download rate is slower and vice versa. Steam needs to learn maths. Discuss.

I'm pretty sure its estimates are effected by the Internet Speed option you choose when you Install Steam.

I set it to the closest to where I live. It says 50 minutes when it's at 1 mb/s but 1 hour and 10 minutes when it goes to 1.3mb/s

What magical world do you live in where the estimation algorithms are normally even remotely accurate?

every download estimation is stuff. my computer darts around between 1 hour and 1 minute while it's downloading things, my old laptop used to have fluctuating estimation time, and the computer at my school has forgeted up upload estimation that says that i'll be done in 10 minutes and just randomly finishes uploading.

my patch download estimates for city of heroes used to always tell me i had a negative estimated time
it was pretty amusing when i was younger

windows does it, i move a 1 gb file it says 40 min remaining, it moves it in like 2 min.

Release mine avatar, whelp. I stopped using it for like a day and you took it. I wasn't planning on keeping this one, but I didn't feel like having the same avatar as someone else for the annoying confusion.

Windows has best time estimation.

So true. I copied my *300gb* steam folder over to my other HD. It said it would take 3 years. It took 2 hours.

I didn't? I found it on google images. I don't even know what I searched, and mine isn't animated.
