Author Topic: Missing AC->DC plug for laptop; DIY alternative?  (Read 1005 times)

I found an ancient laptop that I'd really like to get running, but I don't have the correct DC plug size. I have DC adapters with the right voltage, but the plug doesn't fit. Is there some way to make to make an adapter between a proper voltage dc plug to charge a laptop with the wrong sized charging plug hole? Google only turned up ways to make your own DC adapter itself.

You're missing ACDC? Sounds like a musical problem to me.

Oh stuff guys! Quickly get this man some ACDC!

I've heard and seen of repair jobs on chargers, but its a really iffy process. Adapting one sounds even more risky.

You'd be much better off buying a cheap replacement, or spending extra money on a universal adapter.

Universal adapter? Me gusta.

They are pretty brilliant, usually they come with multiple heads, and a range of voltage chips that you plugin, or a voltage button.

My brother and I used to share a charger when our old ones crapped out simultaneously. We both had different voltages and connectors, but it had the required adapters for both of us. <3

How can I tell if it'll work with my laptop? Is there a way to measure it?

Well when I got mine, it had the list of voltages and heads on the back in measurement yeah. It also had a list of supported computers, so if you can find a similar model to your laptop it'll likely fit.

You could always ask for assistance in a shop, most tech stores are happy to test the product for you.

It's a toshiba satellite 2100CDS.

At least that's what it says on it.

I've had bad experience with those, I bought one and it fried my old PSP.

Here you go.

Sorry, someone just had to do it sooner or later.
