Author Topic: The Earth is NOT spinning! Don't listen to those liar scientists!  (Read 4468 times)

Most of us Christians draw the line between our faith and the world of science but...

Oh God...

This guy is loving handicapped!

That looks suspiciously like Full Metal Jacket.
Is it Full Metal Jacket?

>"When a rocket ship takes off from earth, the earth isn't moving. That must be proof. watch me perform an experiment".
>flies a helicopter off of a moving toy car
>helicopter stops midair
>surface of earth has an atmosphere.
>+gravitational field of earth.
>space has no air
>microgravity

bitches be stupid.

Religion in a Nutshell

I don't even read the Bible, yet I don't let it interfere over scientific beliefs.
Shouldn't Christians know the bible well? Lots of them haven't even read it. Does that mean you're still christian?
i thought atheists don't always agree with each other as well
so you're basically saying only christians disagree with one another?

also last i checked the bible never said that the earth isn't spinning, lol
Nobody completely agrees with one another, but Christians in particular are pretty divided, from Roman Catholic to Christian to Protestant they all interpret the bible differently, or use different texts. Atheists shouldn't even be a group, IMO group thinking tends to lead to a circlejerk if everyone has the same opinion. (see reddit's atheism board)
But uh
Not all Christians go against science. And you will probably respond with more "oh there you have it more dumb Christians lol they cant even follow themselves!" Which, yes, could be true if you really wanted to get that literal, but that would be a pretty ignorant comment. People call themselves Christian because they follow Christian values, it doesn't mean they have to be extremely religious and go to church every day and not ever say "oh my god" and all that trash. Its just saying they are religious. They aren't going to say "oh i follow pretty much everything christian BUT i like science so im not christian, im an athiest."
But once again I don't understand your grasp on the bible. Do you stand for what it says, that god created the earth in seven days, and all the stories? Do you agree with all his rules? Some of them?

Religion in a Nutshell
Not necessarily. We shouldn't generalize against all religions; while it can be used to control the masses (i.e the Vatican) it is also a great tool for enlightenment. Having a set of rules to go by is great if they're the right rules. But if you try to impose these rules on people who don't believe in your rules, you're probably a douchebag. I can recall before the 4th century Christianity was pretty calm and about enlightenment, but I saw that on the history channel so it could be total bs.

Don't forget Pastafarian.

I'm not religious at all, so I couldn't answer your question, but when I was a faithful person, no not really. I mean, I thought all the science behind the whole universe being created was true, the Big Bang and all that, evolution yadda yadda. But what my main thought was that SOMETHING had to made that first particle, and because of my religious belief at the time, my thought was God. Sure, science exists, I'm not an ignorant fool, but why couldn't God exist as well? I knew that thunderstorms where the because of electrons in a cloud being attracted to the protons in the ground, I didn't think it was "gods wrath getting rid of the sinners" or something.

I think the main thing we're all seeing here is that all people that are religious have to follow everything right down to the very last word. That would be fine if it wasn't so close-minded and hateful (not the whole religion obviously). I can still be a Christian if I want to take the logical route and know that science is there and that God isn't doing everything. Sure, you wouldn't describe me as a down to earth Christian or a REAL Christian (as Bisjac has pointed out), but I'm still a Christian.

But now I've just lost my faith all together. If God is really the  kind of person people view him as, why does he just sit back and expect everyone to like him, else he send them to hell? I think if I created the whole universe and then made lifeforms after my own  image, I would do more for them then just act as a gatekeeper.

So you were more of a deist than a Christian. Still it comes down to what someone wants to be. Technically someone can break every law in the bible and call themselves Christian because thats what they want to be. You can't really argue with that because religions aren't set in stone completely. I agree otherwise.

My transition was really weird because I was really paranoid about going to hell. It messed me up. I saw a program about how lots of people liked drama and dramatic situations (e.g a fight) and that would send them to hell. I was also afraid of thinking of hell and stuff because I thought something would happen. Eventually I turned agnostic and I was really afraid of going to hell so I'd randomly go back to believing again then I went "forget it" and here I am. I'm a lot happier now. You can't really do everything in the bible, as you'd probably have to murder someone if you ever went outside.
