while some of them had mediocre voice quality, it usually had to do with the fact that they were 40+ years old. The three women they showed were young and spry, of course their voices aren't gravelly.

also, most, if not all of the singers were on pitch. pitch is not how good something sounds, it's "subjective psychoacoustical attribute of sound".¹.
