Author Topic: Job Application.  (Read 1069 times)

After gathering two personal references, I've decided to go hunting for a job. specifically at my local record store, since I go there enough. as some of you may know, I am 14. Would this cause any substantial child labor laws that would make having a job not worth it/ employers not wanting to hire me?

I live in Maryland BTW.

Look down some posts.

Apparently I have to have a first job before having a workers permit. Which I would get before applying for a second job.

If you're 14, you can only work for your legal guardians.

Or at least that's how it is in most places.

Go to your school's office and ask for work permit papers.
Every time you have a birthday you have to fill out a new one to stay current with the restrictions of the age group.

In Canada, Alberta, I can work at 14.
:D

I doubt anyone's going to want to hire a 14-year-old

I just applied at Hobby Lobby near my house, good starting wage for a first job and it's closed on Sundays lol.

Laws are different for country to country obviously, but even more confusingly in America, I believe they also change state to state.

Here in New Zealand you must be 16 before you can work full time. I guess theoretically you can get a part time job anywhere assuming an employer will take you on.

Unfortunately right now, New Zealand businesses nationwide have taken the really annoying approach of only wanting people with years worth of experience, even in the basic jobs of certain fields and industries. There is no room for young people wanting work experience, or even newly qualified people trying to get on the job ladder. Its a real problem here.

So the only issue might be if the company can be bothered to take on someone young.

I guess I could, but I've never seen anyone younger than ~17 ref a hockey game.

That sucks.

Wish you luck

Downtown is only ~3 miles away, so I ride my bike there.

I went to the record store and handed me an application no questions asked. They said they weren't hiring but they would still consider my application. I decided to make several photocopies of the application so I can screw up a few times before submitting it. C:
