Author Topic: On the subject of terrain maps and vehicles  (Read 2170 times)

I know this is a bit late, but I feel like it's still topic-worthy.

I'm actually kind of glad that terrain is being taken out.  It will force people to create bigger and better builds.  We won't have "Slope TDM's" with a box on either side of the mountain range and have that pass for a server.  People can strategically build the terrain to suit the needs of the server exactly.  imo, it will make for a much better server experience.

Now onto vehicles.  We all know that currently the vehicles are pretty bad when it comes to driving on nonflat bricks.  When a hill is built, most people tend to use either bricks or plates.  Now, asking for vehicles to drive smoothly over bricks is just plain stupid, but I think that we really do need the vehicles to drive well over a slope made of plates.  Vehicles will have to be updated in V22.

Anyway, that's my rant.  Opinions?  Anything to add?

Soon being after V21 comes out
which is who knows when

I wouldn't count on vehicle physics being updated anytime ever. Apparently the focus is shifting purely towards building, so that's probably where you will see any work done.

I disagree with _Rave_ when he says taking out terrain will make servers better. There is no logic in stating that removing option A will make people work harder using option B. No one will be "forced" to build better tdm's, people will just stop making them altogether.

That depends on who the person is.

i've never actually seen an exceptionally good tdm that's hosted on terrain/interiors so i guess the people that made those and don't want to do brick terrain and whatnot just won't host and it won't really be much a loss. in my opinion, at least.

This.

Any worthwhile TDMs are usually the ones with effort put into them at some stage, not just using a terrain. Of course there ARE servers which rely on terrain to make them work and are still great (ie. Jorgur's Dogfight), but in general if the terrains are removed a lot of the less worthwhile TDMs will never appear ever again and the server list will be slightly less busy.
Then again, Slate TDM is a certainty.

hey guys guess what it really isnt hard to make good brick tdms.

R.I.P. Skiing on the mountain map

That was the first thing I did when I got the full version of blockland. ;_;

Literally the only reason this tard wants terrain is because his computer can't handle the bricks.

Vehicles are a big part of Blockland, I don't think they're going to go neglected for too long once terrain is removed.

I can imagine that if they're phasing out vehicles they'll implement brick vehicles with a better collision system.

Why not just keep the viechles we have now and
